Father, forgive me, but once this joke popped into my head I couldn’t let it go.
This Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, the last week of Lent and thus the last week of Jesus’ life. I can’t tell the whole story here, but considering we remember Jesus’ death on the cross at the end of the week it goes without saying that a lot of bad stuff happens.
I’ve read and even acted out the narrative of Jesus’ last days on earth (often referred to as “the Passion of Christ”) many times, but there’s certain moments that always spark a powerful reaction in me. One of those moments is Jesus’ “trial” before the Jewish high priest on the morning that Jesus is crucified (now called Good Friday). The ire and disrespect shown toward Jesus during this scene is horrific, and the horror is magnified by Jesus’ passive acceptance of what goes down.
As the title of this comic suggests, the high priest certainly puts the a** in Passion.
Thank God that’s not how the story ends, right?
