Father forgive us, for we know not how ridiculous we appear.
The challenge every pastor faces while preaching is to sound intelligent enough to be convincing but down-to-earth enough to be relatable. It’s a delicate balancing act that requires difficult decisions: Do I use a Greek or Hebrew word to hopefully shed new light on a familiar passage (and potentially confuse folks) or do I tell a personal story to hopefully better connect scripture to life application (and potentially become too vulnerable)?
Whatever route we take, I think most of us secretly envision ourselves as Yoda-esque imparters of sage wisdom.
Thank you, church folks, for not telling us how often we sound like Jar Jar instead.
